Bucket list

There are three things that I have always thought I’d do only after turning 50:

1. shave off moustache and goatee (a personal homage to the Bersaglieri Corps);

2. fly in business class;

3. write about Grappa.

I just turned forty-eight, goatee and fancy airplane seats can wait, but these new-fangled social media are travelling at the speed of light, and the wish to connect with our appreciators gets ever stronger. The other night, I saw pope Ratzinger on TV tinkering with an Ipad to inaugurate the new Vatican website. I thought to myself: it’s really time to get going on your bucket list.

I still want to seriously try my hand at writing about Grappa only after my half-century birthday, because it’s a distillate that I regard with reverence and any literary endeavour would require utter humbleness and competence. I’m not sure I posses both qualities, nor if I ever will  in sufficient measure. In the meantime, while working away on clearing my doubts and grow up, I’ll try to seed some meaningful conversations about the definitive Italian distillate, giving some deeper  insights in the oft little known world of Grappa.

Best,

Jacopo Poli
